Getting a job is a good thing in Dubai but to actually settle down in Dubai these things are required;

  • Labor Card
  • Emirates ID Card
  • Iqama/Visa pasted on Passport

Labor Card doesn’t apply for house wife/spouse visa but Emirates ID card and Aqama needs to be obtained to have legal status in Dubai. I started regular job routine after getting hired which I mentioned in my previous post How I got a Job in Dubai. When my company started to process my documents I came to know that I need to exit Dubai once and re-enter Dubai on work visa. Although my employer was very kind and I trusted him but soon doubts started encircling me. I started thinking what If i go back home and company never send me the visa. What if something gets wrong this time and many other fears which made me kind of sick.

Let me tell you some common practices which are feared a lot. Companies hire candidates on tourist visas, get them working for them and when their tourist visa limit expires they pay for either extension or ask them to go home and they will send him work visa via Email. If candidate was up to the mark and was highly appreciated then his visa is sent to him via Email and is submitted to the Airport at D-nata counter. Employee fly to Dubai using that photocopy and than collects his visa from Airport before passport / Immigration control. What is feared is if the employee is not considered worthy he is never sent a visa and his time in Dubai with that company is wasted either he is get paid or not.

Luckily I had a good employer, I got my visa , I flew back to Dubai from Pakistan on company sponsored Emirates Airlines return ticket. My colleague submitted my visa on airport which I collected on arrival and all things went well. When you come back on employment visa than the rest of documentation start. The Work Permit which is mostly a pinkish red color printout of a permit only allows you to fly in to Dubai as a worker after that you have to get original visa pasted on your passport which is called Aqama in Arabic.

To get Aqama, Labor Card and Emirates ID Card, you need to follow these steps;

Typing of Documents

Typing of Documents is actually getting a serial number online for Medical and Emirates ID Card Application which is printed on the form. Secondly to get the documents translated into Govt. set format and in Arabic Language

Medical Test

At Govt allotted health centers, you need to appear for blood test and X-Ray. Once your tests are done the results are sent to the address you have mentioned on the application.

Medical tests required for Dubai Visa

Currently Following Checkups are done at Medical Centers of UAE for Residency Visa;

  • HIV
  • TB

Hepatitis C is no more tested and there are relaxations for Hepatitis B cases as well in new UAE immigration policies due to need of huge amount of professionals for Expo 2020.

Positive candidates of above mentioned cases are rejected and sometimes deported based on severity of the case

Emirates ID

Emirates ID centers are mostly adjacent to health centers, once you have completed your medical procedure, you go to Emirates ID center and give scans of your palms, fingers, thumbs and eyes. Emirates ID is also later sent to the Address you mention on the application form.

There are three known medical health centers in Dubai.

  1. Muhaisna [Sonapur] Health Center. Dubai Hospital
  2. Satwa Health Center
  3. Al-Qouz Health Center

Majority of new appliers are sent to Sonapur Labor Camp health center. To get Sonapur Health Center, you can either take taxi which will charge around AED 100 from Central Dubai like Bur Dubai and Deira and around AED 120 from Western Dubai like Albarsha or Jabel Ali areas. If you are in Albarsha, the nearest health center is in Al qouz. The other way and the cheap way to get to health center is via bus. Routes 13, 17 and 13B goes to sonapur health center. If you are coming from Central Dubai like Bur Dubai Deira or Karama, you can take these buses from Al-Qusais Metro station on green line or Dubai Airport Free Zone Metro Station on Green line.

The Medical Process

Once you have reached Medical Center, first thing which you will feel to have entered in some super duper crowded place like a market at bay. Actually its in Labor Camp So folks living around are all labor, not very rich and not at all a good life style. They live in sharing like 10 to 12 guys in a single room of dimension 12 x 10 ft. Anyway on the gate of Health center you meet the security guard who guides you to the information office or the central half. The first thing you need to do is to get a Zajel form. Zajel is a courier service which will deliver your Medical report and Emirates ID card on the address you will mention on Zajel form.

Second thing is to get a token for medical processing. Once you have got the token you will sit in the waiting area and will wait for your number to be called. Once you are called you will go for blood test. Once your blood is taken, you will be referred to X-Ray area. Once you are done with X-Ray you are free to go to Emirates ID Card Center.

Charges of Medical and Emirates ID Card typing and file preparation are AED 560 for both. The health form in your hand will state that you have paid a fees of AED 240 that is for normal and AED 500 for urgent. The normal medical report mostly comes in a week, the urgent comes in 24 hrs. Once you have received your medical report you again go for visa typing and submit your passport for Aqama which takes no more than two days.

Once you have your emirates ID card, your Aqama pasted on your passport than you have acquired residency status and can roam around free in UAE as a resident.

  3. Hi sir, can you please tell me the rules for Tested positive for hepatitis B will work in an office environment? I really appreciate your rely.

  4. At the medical centre they have put an xray stamp on my receipt after xray test. And then have asked to come again for another blood test and sputum test. Pro says some problem with the xray. Should I be worried?

  5. Hi, sir goodafternoon i just want to us your opinion regarding if they issue me an unfit result for my medical. Because during my xray they said that i have fibrosis and i undergo sputum and blood sample and my kabayan who is working there told me that it was negative and the doctor talk to me and ask some question like if i had a previous tb and i said no! And he ordered for ppd test, after 3 days it’s positive with 12mm maybe because i am a nurse for 3 yrs in philippines. If they give me a unfit result could i undergo the quantiferon tb gold test? Because base on the forum that i read most of them sent back home even they dont have the history. Thank you much i hope you can help me.

      • Therefore sir, i should wait first the result before i ask for the quantiron test. How would i know sir if i had a unfit result? My company will tell me or the medical center? Thanks sir!

      • What do u mean yes, sir? Even if I am not in the category and my test for hep b is positive they will deport me?

      • Thanks sir. I just came backe from the medical fitness center. Because I appeal that they made a mistake for my category they asked me to repeat the blood test today and they ask me to bring my job description coming from our head office but the blood test they require for me is only the hep b, that’s why I ask them why only hep b they ask me to repeat not all. Then he only told me just get your job description and come back here. I am really scared. But my position is in sales and clearly mention in my job description that I am not dispensing medicine. I am really stressed because of this and cannot eat and think properly. What do you think sir will happen? Please tell me. Because the man look like he is angry with me because I am so persistent.

      • Thanks sir for your reply.. I will wait til Sunday to pass my job description.. I hope everything will be fine… I already know that I’m positive on hepa b test my only hope is the job description that I am not in the category.. I don’t know if the one who asked me to bring the job description is a doctor… I hope so, because the last word he told me is get my job description and I will pass u… May God touched him mightily and he will let me pass the medical… Thanks again sir.. Because of you, I am not that much worried. Thanks…

      • Hello again mr Malik Mudassar, thanks for all your informations .. 😇
I resigned now with my job and searching for a new one. I just hope and pray that my medical results will be alright again.. I am looking for a sales representative or promoter position… It is something to do with skin care products so I hope it’s not belong to the 6 categories.. I am thinking of applying a husband visa as well if I don’t get a job asap.. Sir, what are test they do for a husband visa? Kindly please reply. Thanks.
Hope everything is well with you too.. God bless Sir…

  10. Hi, I had my medical yesterday for renewal of my visa. Actually I am not belong in the 6th category as I am in sales and my visa renewal also is for clerk but the one who is I receiving documents in the medical fitness center stamp FH in my documents as in food handlers category. It was not the same as before. I argue with her but she told me alright just have your test and no vaccination so I was tested for hep b etc. I know that I am positive on hep b What could be the possible thing will happen as I am Only working on sales and not in restaurant or any of the said category. Can I appeal if they will not process my documents as there is a confusion on it. Or they will automatically deport me?

  11. dear want to ask .. got my stub from zajel but the last part of it I think ive lost it. what can i do now? pls advice thanks

  12. I got a GAMCA medical report from Shifa International Pakistan, on my x rays they found tiny old spot on left lung. Now they unfit me to work in KSA. Should anyone guide me that I can apply for UAE to do job. GAMCA is must for Dubai or not.

    • Waqas Bhai!

Try not to waste your money. If they unfit you for Saudia. Same medical rules apply in pretty much entire GULF. If some natural remedies can help you out in removing that scar of yours then try.

  21. Hi everyone. I am a new comer working at Dubai and I am now facing the problem with my old TB lung scar. I have gone through the ordeal or blood test and sputum test at Al Muhaisnah, the TB committee will have it’s decision in these few days.

I have asked my parents back home to seek my medical record of completed TB treatment and will send the copy of report through email to my company PRO.

I have not provide the medical certificate from my country to the TB committee yet. I would like to know if there are any chance for my company PRO to appeal with my medical certificate from my country when he goes to collect my result at Al Muhaisnah or the decisions are already made by then??? =/

Just manage to scroll through so many comments are some with good outcome, it is a very good support and relief to me.

PS: keep up the good work, Malik Mudassar.

    • Hi just an update to my case, I have manage to obtain a “fit” certificate from the authority, I heard my company PRO help a lot. And of course all should be given thanks to God.
For those facing similar issue as well, advice for all of you.
Make sure you have a copy of your full treatment back in your country. the details of your treatment and report by doctor. Try to get it attested at your country’s UAE embassy (I didn’t but i think it will help out too)
Come clean with the TB committee if you have TB before, pray to God and hope you have a good company PRO.
The past 3 weeks had been hard for me to endure….
But i see the rainbow now~
      Cheers

  22. Dear Mr Mudassar,

    Good day!

3 years back I sponsored my wife on residence visa when she went for medical in Muhaisnah after blood and sputum tests they identified she had stage 3 TB. They immediately admitted her there and told that until she comes to stage 1 she will be admitted and treated. Alhamdulillah she was back to stage 1 in 2 weeks’ time. They then took her to Immigration and cancelled her Visa and took her eye scan. She was deported thereafter with a ban. After going back to home country she was treated and cured 100% in 6 months. And now we have a 2 year old baby. I have checked with many people but everyone says that it is a life ban and she cannot enter UAE at all. My request is if she can’t come on a residence visa is there any possibility that she can at least come on a Visit Visa even though she has been banned with the eye scan.

    Hoping for a positive reply.

    Thanking you in advance.
    Mohamed

  23. My husband (under my sponsorship-family visa) arrived in Al Ain on the 18th Sept and went for his medical exam, shortly afterwards my PRO told us to contact HAAD, they told him he had lung scars from old TB and would be ineligible for a residence visa. They gave him the UNFIT certificate specifying only ‘abnormal chest Xray’ and didn’t order any further tests. He had TB 8 years ago and was cured but the scars are there which from my reading means he will be banned for life from entering the UAE even on a visit visa? Is there any hope? Also we had planned on taking a trip to Thailand in December (approx. 90 days after he entered the UAE), we have already bought the tickets and if he definitely will receive a life ban is there any way he can at least stay until we both leave the country, or if I approach Immigration(have been scared to do so) will he be immediately deported even if I show an outbound flight ticket? Our dreams have been destroyed, I have read about some former TB patients only receiving a 6 month ban but generally they are banned for life even if they are separated from family as a result. We are both 48 years old and had planned on staying here for many years, is there any hope apart from trying to find another job outside of the GCC? I read there was some talk about changing the law back in 2011-12 as it was seen as medically unnecessary by the head doctor of the DHA but there has been no action on it since then from what I can see online.

    • Sister! I am sorry to hear about the Lung Scar, yes it is bad news. Anyway don’t need to go to anyone just apply for visit visa extension he can get one for the remaining period you just have to pay the fees. Approx three years ago it was around AED 1000 /- I have no idea how much it is now.

      • Thanks for your reply Mudassar bhai. Just to clarify he did not come on a visit visa, He came on a residence visa with me as his sponsor and only has the pink paper valid for 60 days after entry – would he be able to get an extension beyond this 60 days(which ends 15 November) or when Immigration sees the failed medical exam on his computer file will they order immediate deportation? If we can have 1 more month together and be able to leave together on holiday we will even pay the overstay fines but I am worried about any possible jail time or immediate deportation order. I even called the Dubai immigration help line and they did not give me a clear answer. Also is there any way he could come even on a visit visa or if he produces an attested medical report showing no active TB? It seems really hopeless unless they change this law like they did for Hepatitis. Thanks again in advance

      • No no there is no jail if you keep paying $$. One month over stay on residency permit is 15×30=450 AED . Whatever suits your budget , take your pick of days

  27. Hi.. Just had a medical fitness test 2 days ago and today i receive an SMS “Dear Customer, your Medical Fitness Report has been sent to General Directory of Residency and Foreigners Affairs. Please proceed to your nearest GDRFA branch. Thank You.”

Does this mean I passed the medical exam or is there a problem to my results? Because I thought the results are supposed to be delivered. Should I be worried?

I was asked to redo the test and was called repeatedly for 3 days continuously 1st day blood and cough test 2nd Cough Test 3rd Day Cough Test after that i was called after 2 days for some personal meet with the doctor, Doctor asked me few questions abt my past health issues and if i had an accident before and if i use any medical drugs. To let u know i am just fit and fine and never been admitted to hospital or met with an accident the answers for all his questions were no. Today i went to take my reports bt the person said only PRO of my company can take the reports and not me. (Now this is really scary for me as to why they are hiding the report results by not sharing with me) I am really scared and jst want to know if this is a normal procedure or if there is some problem. Also i asked many people but all seems to have a confused review, few ppl say if you would hve failed the test you wld hve already been depoted by now, few say you have passed the test thats why they are taking my case easily. Also i jst came to know now that my company PRO is out of dubai for 2 weeks, so he would nt b able to go and get my reports until 2 weeks nw.
