What are Medical Checkups required for Dubai Residency Visa?

Getting a job is a good thing in Dubai but to actually settle down in Dubai these things are required;

  • Labor Card
  • Emirates ID Card
  • Iqama/Visa pasted on Passport

Labor Card doesn’t apply for house wife/spouse visa but Emirates ID card and Aqama needs to be obtained to have legal status in Dubai. I started regular job routine after getting hired which I mentioned in my previous post How I got a Job in Dubai. When my company started to process my documents I came to know that I need to exit Dubai once and re-enter Dubai on work visa. Although my employer was very kind and I trusted him but soon doubts started encircling me. I started thinking what If i go back home and company never send me the visa. What if something gets wrong this time and many other fears which made me kind of sick.

Let me tell you some common practices which are feared a lot. Companies hire candidates on tourist visas, get them working for them and when their tourist visa limit expires they pay for either extension or ask them to go home and they will send him work visa via Email. If candidate was up to the mark and was highly appreciated then his visa is sent to him via Email and is submitted to the Airport at D-nata counter. Employee fly to Dubai using that photocopy and than collects his visa from Airport before passport / Immigration control. What is feared is if the employee is not considered worthy he is never sent a visa and his time in Dubai with that company is wasted either he is get paid or not.

Luckily I had a good employer, I got my visa , I flew back to Dubai from Pakistan on company sponsored Emirates Airlines return ticket. My colleague submitted my visa on airport which I collected on arrival and all things went well. When you come back on employment visa than the rest of documentation start. The Work Permit which is mostly a pinkish red color printout of a permit only allows you to fly in to Dubai as a worker after that you have to get original visa pasted on your passport which is called Aqama in Arabic.

To get Aqama, Labor Card and Emirates ID Card, you need to follow these steps;

Typing of Documents

Typing of Documents is actually getting a serial number online for Medical and Emirates ID Card Application which is printed on the form. Secondly to get the documents translated into Govt. set format and in Arabic Language

Medical Test

At Govt allotted health centers, you need to appear for blood test and X-Ray. Once your tests are done the results are sent to the address you have mentioned on the application.

Medical tests required for Dubai Visa

Currently Following Checkups are done at Medical Centers of UAE for Residency Visa;

  • HIV
  • TB

Hepatitis C is no more tested and there are relaxations for Hepatitis B cases as well in new UAE immigration policies due to need of huge amount of professionals for Expo 2020.

Positive candidates of above mentioned cases are rejected and sometimes deported based on severity of the case

Emirates ID

Emirates ID centers are mostly adjacent to health centers, once you have completed your medical procedure, you go to Emirates ID center and give scans of your palms, fingers, thumbs and eyes. Emirates ID is also later sent to the Address you mention on the application form.

There are three known medical health centers in Dubai.

  1. Muhaisna [Sonapur] Health Center. Dubai Hospital
  2. Satwa Health Center
  3. Al-Qouz Health Center

Majority of new appliers are sent to Sonapur Labor Camp health center. To get Sonapur Health Center, you can either take taxi which will charge around AED 100 from Central Dubai like Bur Dubai and Deira and around AED 120 from Western Dubai like Albarsha or Jabel Ali areas. If you are in Albarsha, the nearest health center is in Al qouz. The other way and the cheap way to get to health center is via bus. Routes 13, 17 and 13B goes to sonapur health center. If you are coming from Central Dubai like Bur Dubai Deira or Karama, you can take these buses from Al-Qusais Metro station on green line or Dubai Airport Free Zone Metro Station on Green line.

The Medical Process

Once you have reached Medical Center, first thing which you will feel to have entered in some super duper crowded place like a market at bay. Actually its in Labor Camp So folks living around are all labor, not very rich and not at all a good life style. They live in sharing like 10 to 12 guys in a single room of dimension 12 x 10 ft. Anyway on the gate of Health center you meet the security guard who guides you to the information office or the central half. The first thing you need to do is to get a Zajel form. Zajel is a courier service which will deliver your Medical report and Emirates ID card on the address you will mention on Zajel form.

Second thing is to get a token for medical processing. Once you have got the token you will sit in the waiting area and will wait for your number to be called. Once you are called you will go for blood test. Once your blood is taken, you will be referred to X-Ray area. Once you are done with X-Ray you are free to go to Emirates ID Card Center.

Charges of Medical and Emirates ID Card typing and file preparation are AED 560 for both. The health form in your hand will state that you have paid a fees of AED 240 that is for normal and AED 500 for urgent. The normal medical report mostly comes in a week, the urgent comes in 24 hrs. Once you have received your medical report you again go for visa typing and submit your passport for Aqama which takes no more than two days.

Once you have your emirates ID card, your Aqama pasted on your passport than you have acquired residency status and can roam around free in UAE as a resident.

  1. Hi my friends and family have been working in Dubai and other Saudi Arabia and they often share the woes of being in a foreign land. I however decided that I will make my own life here in India by doing what I love and I am doing that now. Thanks for coming over to my blog

    • Life is a classroom itself you keep learning till your class is over. I have been writing on different topics since last six years never before it occurred to me that blogging could have been such a fun and a passive income source. I now have started this too just like you , never know when I will end up back to home town or setup a retirement life somewhere peaceful but its a good way of living.

  2. Hi,

I wonder why I already have my Emirates ID but I dont have my medical result yet. I keep going back to hospital for other tests as my xray says repeat. But until now, they didnt give me my medical result. You can’t have the emirates ID if you failed the medical? I dont understand why they didnt give me my result yet.

    • Well, Tell you what! Medical and Emirates ID card both departments work parallel. But sometimes when there is a confusion in some medical result the medical report is delayed but that doesnt means that it is somehow rejected.

  3. hi
i changed my company & join new company.today i finished my medical checkup but i forget go to Emirates ID Card Center.can i go after 3 & 4 day for emirates id center for eye & thumb test

  4. hi sir,

i would like to ask what if you go on a tourist visa in dubai, then you get hired before the visa expired, do i really need to exit the uae for my employment visa processing or just wait for the advice of the employer for visa exit or can i just stay?

    Thank you.

    • Yes it is must to exit. But if you dont want to go back to your own country just get a return ticket for kesh or qatar. Will not cost you more than 500-550AED and will solve your problem. If you can drive to any border that will work too.

  5. Ah I c..

One last Sir, meaning if I exit, I will shoulder the expenses? or there is a chance an employer will pay for it?

Can i go back to UAE once I exit immediately or Do i really need to wait for my working Visa to release and receive it on my hand before I can go back?

Thank you for the reply in advance. 🙂

    • If you trust the company that they will send you visa once you exit then you can leave to your home town. If not don’t leave unless you have got offer letter signed and stamped

  6. Are Hiv positive people allowed to work and live in sharjah?(as per new rules of 2013) Or so they deport employees suffering from Hiv?

      • Okay. Thats good but i have heard that people dodge the test ? And the result is hidden from DHA? Any news on that? And i have also heard that they are removing the ban for hiv suffers?

  7. Hi Good Day!

Im a postive Hepa B. And willing to work abroad. Is it the government of UEA allows me to work there? What are the necessary medical processes the government need. I worry because I have to spend money as tourist and will search for work there, however I am a positive HBsag B.
    Please reply mam

  8. Thank you for your reply. But I read lot of forums saying only for maids or nannies to undergo pregnancy test? Thank you.

    • If you are local no worries, but if you are expat and single, there won’t be a prag test requirement but they will conduct X-Ray and if someone is prag, X-Ray shows. So they ask nicely, if you are turn out to be pregnant after X-Ray, then you have to present husband documents or proof that you were married in your country before coming to UAE

  9. Hi your help would be more appreciated. I got the offer for a new company and stated that in case i resign after confirming the offer and in the process of obtaining my employment visa i shall pay to the company a penalty of 15,000 AED but this clause would be void once i sign the employment contract of uae ministry of labor. So my question is when they will give me to sign the employment contract from ministry of labor? As i know i will get the employment contract from ministry of labor once i started to work and successfully pass the medical test? Please help me since i was worried to go for medical for some valid reason. Thank you.

    • Dear Marilyn!

Once the company signs a contract, they apply for the employment quota and submit the bank guarantee for the employee after that the employment permit is approved from Ministry of Labor. Once the permit from Ministry of Labor is issued your new visa (Work Permit) will be printed and given to your company. Then you have to exit/enter to have an immigration stamp on your new visa.
Once you have successfully entered back on new work permit, then you company sends you for medical and emirates ID card, once that is done, your new visa (aqama) is pasted on your passport, This takes normally 15 to 20 days. After that there is no need to sign any contract from Ministry of Labor as it is already included in your visa processing document file which company PRO submits to get your visa.

  10. Hi there,

A friend of mine has just recently found out that she is pregnant. She has just got a job and is due to go for a medical test to get uae residency. Do you know if it is a requirement to get a pregnancy test done in that test as I know they test hiv and tb I think? To make it worse, she is unmarried!

What to do, as she is panicking! She has given in her passport to the PRO and medical test is due next week, will she get her passport back to go for the medical test in case she needs to exit the country for fear of jail!

    Please help …..

    Thanks

    • Rose.

UAE Rules doesn’t allow pre-marriage sex as it is an islamic country. Although everyone does it but girls are caught, when they get pregnant.

She will be sent to Jail, If she is not able to present her husband with proper documents during medical test.

Normally I’d never suggest this kind of stupid but in her situation, she got no other choice then abortion by pills

Once her condition is normal after abortion she can go for medical test and try to use precaution next time or ask the boy to use condoms

      Regards

  11. Hi thank you for your reply. She don’t have any choice just to abort the unborn child. But the problem is now there is no 100% that the baby will be aborted…

    • If she is a filipino, there is a hospital for filipinas in Deira, You can ask her to contact them. No one else will recommend anything better then those folks

  12. when can I get the health card? I’m done already in my medical and also in biometrics for my eyes, fingerprints etc.

    • Normally it takes 10 to 15 working days. Your company PRO will process your health card. You will get Emirates ID after you have cleared Medical

  13. hello everybody
i ve been in dubai last january as i had a work contract for dubai duty free. i did all the medical test in my hometown and everythin was okay but after a month when i was there ..i was shocked cause of the result of my medical test in muhaisina centre..they said tt had a small spot in my lungs cause of an old tb but the problem is tt i never had tb before i tried to explain tt to the doctors there but with positive results they deported me after a while ..now i really want to go back to dubai cause i letf my fiancée there and i want to get back my job as i made sure tt the spot in my lungs is comletely cleared ..please let me know all the procuders tt i can do from my country.
    tnx forward

    • Go to Ministry of Labor website and see your status whether there is a ban on your or not. If you were only deported for medical fitness constraints you can come back after three years

  14. Hi Mudassar,

Yes she’s a filipina. Do you have any contact where we can find the hospital in Deira? Thank you for your help.

  15. hi Mudassar
Thank u for ur reply, i sent a friend of mine to ask about the ban they told him that i have only 6 months ban…is that possible ?in this case what i should do?
    tnx forward

      • But muddassir u told metthere was a lifetime ban on pplwho are hiv positive and ppl who have tb? Can they lift a ban on ppl with hiv too if they sre doing it for tb? And what about hapatitis a , b & c ?

      • Hi mudassar,

Can u tell me how much time is required to have employment visa.I submit all doc to employer on 3rd Jan.What will be probable date of having the work visa??thanks in advance.

      • Normally PROs are the lazy asses, they don’t submit your document intime. If your documents are submitted intime, the process take not more than 5 days to get your residency permit, then you exit and come back after that you go for medical and in 5 to six days you have your visa pasted on your passport

      • Hi I’m in India now.Sent doc thru DHL to employer.
I’m waiting for the work visa.Pls tell me the procedure what PRO will do to get the work visa?and also red visa??
        Thanks.

      • Mudassar
I am asking for work visa and related procedure done by PRO and the estimated time.I sent my original certificates stamped by uae embassy.

      • No shit!!!!! You sent Orignals????

Man no one asks for orignal documents, only color copies. why the hell UAE immigration authorities need orignal documents when they can send a simple fax to Education boards to verify

Stay in Contact with your employer, Documents are more important then your Job.

      • I Dont HV that much fear for certificate. That company exits in my city aswel in India.I can claim those if anything goes wrong.
Plz tell me about my question.

      • First the PRO will apply for quota against your post. once the quota is approved, he will submit bank guarantee and then will wait for approval from ministry of labor, once he has the approval he will make other typing and some other shitty fees. will take a day in immigration and then he will get the red paper. If done properly won’t take more then 6 days but you know PROs they are lazy and they are doing more than one companies at a time so it takes time.

      • hi mudassar
sorry for tt if keep on repeatin almost the same quetions but i just want to make sure of ur informations 🙂 hope u understand my situation..u think if i brinkg a certificate from my country it will enough tt i could success the medical test cause i think i still got a very small spot in my lungs but the doctors says it s not harmfull anymore..do u think it won t cause a problem in the medical test in there?cause im really afraid tt they will deported me again 😦 plz make me sure of everything im afraid of tt law i heard it says tt they deport even people who are cured from tb wut do think sear ?

      • Get that medical certificate attested from Ministry of foreign affairs in your country or UAE Embassy. There won’t be a problem then

      • hi mudassar
i failed the first medical exam cause of a small spot in my lungs.they said tt i have tb before but i never had it,im afraid to go back and will reject me for the same reason, cause they said tt they are sure tt i had it,plz what u propose for me to avoid this, i think about sending my XRAY to a friend of mine and take it to mohaisina fitness and ask the doctor if there is any problem in my Xray wut do u think about this ? wut if people had Tb before ?in this case wut people should do?
        tnx forward

      • Mam! So far UAE Govt laws are strict for HIV +es, though it is still spreading from Russian and Indonesian Girls who come here on visit, spend quality time make handsome money and then go back

  16. hi Mudassar,

I am under Weight, is it become a point for reject me in medical test
    for Middle est countries.

    • If you can stand on your feet, walk and run, then congrats you will be cleared :). Make sure you don’t have TB, HIV or Hyp-C now or ever had it in past.

      • A Gulf News newspaper report said that labour ban rules in the UAE were still in force but expats could apply to have a ban lifted, and quoted anonymous officials apparently from the labour department, although, ironically, the report or the official seemed to be reading information from this page in a couple of places. The report seemed to mostly repeat information already known, but just in case there is something new, a summary is:

A lifetime ban (blacklisting?) can be imposed if a worker absconds (“does a runner”).
A one year ban is imposed if a worker resigns before completing a limited period contract and the employer requests the ban. Not clear if the ban is applied if the employee is terminated by the employer.
A six month ban is automatically imposed in most other cases if an employee has not completed two years of service (and sometimes even if they have).
A six month ban can be lifted if the employee:
moves to another job or company but with the same sponsor.
moves to a job with a minimum salary of AED 5,000 for high school diploma holders, AED 7,000 for post-secondary school diploma holders, or AED 12,000 for Bachelor degree holders.
Not clear if an NOC is required – previous law change in 2011 seemed to indicate an NOC was not needed, but this latest report quoted an anonymous official as saying ‘No one is allowed to switch jobs even if they complete many years in their [current job], without the consent of their sponsor”, and the report also said “workers complained that they were being banned for one year for failing to secure … sponsor’s approval for employees who have been with their sponsors for two continuous years”. So try not to annoy your employer when quitting, you might still want an NOC from them.
The bans apply to wives or husbands under their spouse’s sponsorship for residency (a change from previous law). Or other expats under sponsorship of a relative for residency.

      • thank u soo much mudassar u really reliefed me
still got one thing tt im worry about it, im afraid to comeback and failed the medical test.what u advise me to do mister Mudasser?

      • Make sure you bring all the documents from your country which shows you are medically clear. and have them attested from embassy.

  17. hi mudassar
u know im still afraid of tt medical test they rejected cause of a small spot in my lung they said tt i had tb before but i never had it before.im thinkin about sending my XRAY to friend of mine and take it to a doctor there in muhaisina fitness centre and take his opinion about it,wut do u think about this?and wut if people had Tb before is that a crime?in this case wut should people do if they had tb before and wants to succed the medical test ? plz let me knowabout all the procuders tt i can do and if i should bring a document tt showed tt im cleared from tb cause i dont know if i should bring a document tt showed tt i never had tb or a document tt showed tt i m cleared from tb ? plz help about all the details
    tnx forward

    • Khaleej Times reported 09 October 2010 that those with HIV and tuberculosis are deported and can come back to the country only after six months and if completely cured with a report from hospital

    • Yes Bilal!

Thankyou for sharing the URL for our readers. I have also heard something like this from Dubai Immigration department but so far they are not yet legislated in the policies implemented.

So far Hyp B is in deport list for six categories of workers who could be in direct contact with others too much. Other categories are still out of this.

As all of us know Dubai is selected for Expo 2020 so govt has to invite more and more expats, Many of these restrictions will be relaxed but still UAE Govt can’t compromise over all country’s health issues.

      • it means i should not come to UAE. please study it thoroughly and provide me with a suitable suggestion.

      • If you are applying for jobs like

        Doctor,
        Engineer,
        IT & Telecom Sector
        Consultant
        Real Estate
        Management
        Secretarial

Then you won’t be included in Deport Category. If you are applying for any job in those categories which are mentioned in the URL , then obviously your visa assurance is at risk.

  18. Thanx brother.
I will be offered a Assistant Manager/administrator/secretary job..I am qualified person I will not opt for laborious job like construction worker etc. I have master in economics degree from Pakistan plus a business degree from Denmark. I want to develop my career in UAE. I thing job will not be a problem. to pass the medical examination is a problem.

  24. hi mudassar, i would like to ask about my friends status regarding his medical status he had this x ray twice because according to them its not clear and also he had his skin test… after long wait the result was unfit. is there any remedy or chance or options to stay in dubai for work rather than be deported? please help us. thank you.

  25. hi, I have landed in Dubai in Sep 23, 2009.

During medical examination I was found positive of Jaundice(Hepatitis –B) and was deported to India on 14-Nov -2009.

There are no stamps of ban or any on my passport. I spoke to HR of my company and he said no Ban.

I contacted Abudhabi Immigration call center and they said “It is not possible to give the details of Ban on Person through phone”

Inform any of your relative or friends to contact abudhabi immigration office with Passport and VISA details, then they will give the details whether Person got Ban or not.

IS there any life ban? or can i work in UAE again? If ban is that only for UAE or for all GCC?

    please reply

my hepatitis c is positive, i have gotten full treatment of it, now the virus is not active. initial screening test show hepatitides c is positive but the PCR show hepatitis c is negative or not active. will they go for another test *PCR* if first screening test of hep c is positive during medical examination. weather the authority in DHA listen the request of applicant that he has been treated. and do they allow to work in UAE.

  28. Hello,

I have read that in Gulf news that Dubai Medical will be unfit if person has old TB. It is UAE Federal law that person with old TB will be stamped medical unfit and life time ban will be imposed on him. I am in Pakistan and want to make sure before leaving my country that there is any change in law or still same. Moreover DHA do not accept any attested medical certificates and they deny on basis of lungs scars. Please advise me.

    Regards,

  29. Thanks for immediate reply

    http://www.visauae.in/2013/09/medical-fitness-test-procedure-in-dubai.html
It is clearly written in 3rd line of fourth paragraph that person with previous TB will be deported. Can you kindly refer me written link of ministry that they accept attested certificate.

    http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/health/tuberculosis-scars-reviewed-on-case-by-case-basis-in-dubai-1.1213221

Also refer 6 th paragraph where clearly written that old pulmonary will be denied a fitness certificate.

    Regards,

  30. after got the wife visa what is the procedure of medical and emirates id card and also tell me the expenditure plz

  31. I have found fibrosis on my right chest.I dont have tb and completely fit except some spot of fibrosis.can i work on employment visa in dubai as an accountant

  32. There are many workers apart from these categories who have been deported due to old TB. Some one from India he is banker have been deported due to lung scars. I have checked by making call in Al Muhaisnah medical center they said TB history will be medically unfit.

mahmoudqnanouch what you are trying to say do not get it. Can you kindly explain?

    • 🙂 it is not like a a baqala, you pay and get. You need to go to a typing agent pay the fees for both medical and emirates ID, he will ask you to go to medical center, probably Muhaisna, Both Medical and Emirates ID center are near to each other. Once the process id done you will have your Emirates ID from the Post Office

  33. Hi Mr. Mudassar,

Can you kindly tell me in bit detail what should I do in order to get fit medical certificate? Should I go Dubai on visit and apply for medical? Before leaving Pakistan I want to make it sure that I will not get a permanent ban. What you suggest?

    Regards,

  34. Thanks
I have checked with them they said we do not give certificate even if you have scars due to smoking and you are telling that you have scars due to old TB. They also declare medically unfit due to scars.

      • thanks hahahah thats not possible some other ways can you suggest? I have certificate from Govt TB hospital that I had TB and now cured and fit for job. That would be enough? or should I try for clean certificate that I do not have TB at all.

    • Frankly if you are that much serious don’t think about getting a visa from dubai emirate get your visa from Ajman Emirate
There policies are much relaxed yet their fees is higher

  35. Thanks, old TB clearance certificate will be sufficient or they accept no TB history at all certificate little confused. Should I attest this from UAE embassy too?

    • hello
wut im tryin to say and what i understood from the article is that u can get a fit certificate in condition that u come for a regular test its means every 6 months or every year..depends on ..because they treating TB case by case ..thats wut i think if u got something better plz let me know cause im also having the same problem and im afraid to comeback and facing the same situation again …now im in my country don t know wut can i get from here is certificate showed tt im cleared from tb or that i never had tb ? don t know really!!!wut do advise me mister mudassar and also mister pearl?

      • In that article follow up as I understand are for residents who change job or renew visa but for new comers old TB is still there to make them unfit. If person do not have old TB but only scars, chances are there for fit medical certificate provided that he can prove that he never had TB.
