Having Fun traveling in Dubai Metro

As I mentioned in my earlier post that I moved to Dubai on a bed space in Burjaman and my Job was in Al Barsha that means I have to travel through metro everyday both sides. The closest metro station to Sunshine building where I lived was Khalid bin Waleed Metro Station which is now called Burjaman Metro station because it is located next to Burjaman Mall.

Burjaman Metro Station is one of the world’s biggest underground Metro stations. It has three floors underground. The first floor is the lobby with ticketing offices and booths. Passengers tag their cards to go to trains. The second floor down the lobby is the green line metro route. It has two portions; one for passengers travelling towards Etisalat Office Route, the other for passengers travelling towards Creek or health city route. The third floor down is the red line metro route. The red line Metro route starts from Rashidiya Metro Station and goes all the way to Jabel Ali Free zones.

The red line metro route travels parallel to Sheikh Zaid Road which has Dubai’s and the world’s most tourist attractions built around it. The extremely famous and the world’s tallest building and the Middle East’s biggest mall the Dubai Mall is in the way of red line metro route. The Rashidiya Metro Station is beautifully structured and is a piece of art. It has a huge parking area. People who mostly come from Sharjah to Dubai everyday for Job take this route.

Starting from Rashidiya, the track passes by Airport terminal 3 and Airport Terminal 1. As the track is very high, the view of airport from the track is worth looking at. The entire airport is visible, even runways are visible. People enjoy watching landing and taking off planes from moving Metro. There is no restriction on taking pictures of Airport, Metro Station or the runways.

After Airport terminal 3 the next station is GIGICO, after that the train enters a long tunnel. That tunnel runs passes under the water channel of Deira Area and comes out in Karama. On the red line; the stations underground are Deira City Center, Union MS and Burjaman Metro Station. After Union Metro Station the track takes almost 45 degree turn underground. If you see the map of Dubai you can see Metro stations from Jabel Ali to Burjaman all in a straight line parallel to Sheikh Zaid Road but after Burjaman Metro Station the track changes and it turns right traveling along Airport all the way to Rashidiya Metro Station.

My Starting Metro Station daily in the morning was Burjaman Metro Station. My office timings were 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and it takes almost 1 hour to reach office, so I always was at Metro station at 06:35 sharp to catch the first train which departs from Rashidiya at 06:00 AM. The Metro stations which comes in the chain in my route are; Al Karama Metro Station, Al Jaffiliya Metro Station, World Trade Center Metro Station, Emirates Towers Metro Station, Financial Center Metro Station, Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall Metro Station, Business Bay Metro Station, Bank Noor Al Islamic Metro Station, First Gulf Bank Metro Station and then the last one my stop was Mall of the Emirates Metro Station.

Good thing about traveling through metro is that it saves a lot of times as driving on Sheikh Zaid Road in peak hours take triple the time metro takes. Bad thing about traveling via Metro in peak hours is you hardly get a chance to sit. It is always over crowded.

  1. I have a former professor who just got back from a month long trip in Dubai! They are creating a huge safety school there and he’s been helping get it started up. It looks amazing!
